Begin your holiday with a hotel stay in Cape Town where you’ll be able to explore the magic of the Mother City during a Cape Peninsula tour. Admire the views of the iconic Twelve Apostles, enjoy wildlife encounters and admire beautiful flora in the National Botanic Gardens. From here, you’ll transfer to the beautiful Winelands region for a hotel stay and the chance to embark on a fascinating Cape Winelands tour.

Next, you’ll embark on a lavish Blue Train experience. This luxury, all-inclusive locomotive journey embodies style, class and elegance; from your indulgent suite, to the Cordon Blue-style dining using the finest, local ingredients. You’ll also enjoy a stop at Kimberley with a chance to explore the Open Mine Museum, before reaching Pretoria. Here, you’ll transfer to a luxury safari lodge, where you’ll embark on a fantastic game drive that will get you up close to the majestic Big Five during a three night stay.

Your Itinerary

Day 1 - Cape Town - Hotel Stay

With a hotel stay at Southern Sun The Cullinan, you can enjoy a perfectly located hotel with amazing amenities. After a sumptuous meal in the Peach Tree, you can then relax with a chilled cocktail in hand at the Stella Café & Bar. During the day, the Mangwanani Boutique Spa provides muscle melting massages in which to reenergise and prepare for your adventure ahead.

Day 2 - Cape Town - Peninsular Tour and Hotel Stay

Get to grips with the Mother City herself during a full day exploration tour. Following breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be picked up by private coach at 9.00am, as you begin your journey towards Cape Point. Drive along the wild Atlantic coast as you pass by beautiful Camps Bay all the while admiring the views of the iconic Twelve Apostles.

Wedged in a valley on the Atlantic seaboard of the Cape Peninsula you’ll travel to the charming fishing village of Hout Bay next, where you’ll have the chance to join an optional boat trip to Duiker Island to view the Cape Fur seals. Further wildlife encounters await at the Cape Point Nature Reserve, home to baboons, rhebok, Cape Mountain zebra, bontebok and the elusive eland.

Returning to Cape Town, you’ll visit Boulders Beach, famed for its colony of waddling penguins; Fish Hoek fishing village; the seaside suburb of Muizenberg and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. You’ll arrive back at your hotel at approximately 5.00pm and have the rest of the evening to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 3 - Cape Town - Hotel Stay

With so much history and culture to see around Cape Town, another day is yours to explore at leisure. Pay a visit to stunning Boulders Beach, sheltered by its ancient granite boulders means it’s protected from the wind and large waves. One of Cape Town’s most visited beaches and the only place in the world where you can experience a close encounter with African Penguins.

Day 4 - Franshhoek - Hotel Stay

The next part of your adventure takes you to the renowned Winelands region for a fabulous hotel stay at Protea Hotel Franschhoek. Situated overlooking the majestic mountains and famous vineyards of the historical village of Franschhoek, the hotel offers a rich history, elegant charm and a superb base from which to explore the region’s culinary delights.

Day 5 - Franshhoek - Winelands Tour and Hotel Stay

Today you’ll take your taste buds on a tour of their own at the famed Winelands regions of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Following breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be picked up by private coach at 9.00am and will travel to Paarl. Surrounded by mountains and vineyards, here you’ll enjoy a wine tasting and cellar tour at a local estate where aspiring wine connoisseurs can get to know the ins and outs of South African wine production.

Next up, the Drakenstein Valley of Franschhoek, its French influences still very much alive. You’ll have a chance to stop for lunch here, and as the self-billed gastronomic capital you’ll be spoilt for choice of places to dine, many often accompanied by idyllic views across vineyards overlooked by soaring mountains. Of course, there’ll also be another wine tasting at a vineyard here.

More world-class wine awaits in Stellenbosch, the historic heart of South Africa’s wine region. Here you’ll find a historic town where streets are lined with a gracious blend of Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian architecture. Enjoy a final wine tasting here before returning to your hotel at approximately 5.00pm, where the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 6 - Franshhoek - Hotel Stay

Spend the day exploring the pleasures that Franschhoek has to offer. Admire art in one of the galleries, indulge your taste buds with cheese tasting from local factories or, enjoy a horse-back ride around the picturesque scenery.

Day 7 - Franshhoek - Transfer to Cape Town and Embark Blue Train

Following your stay, you’ll hop aboard the iconic Blue Train for a journey to remember to Pretoria. The route from Cape Town to Pretoria is a journey of nearly 1,000 miles passing through some of the most diverse scenery on the African sub-continent. On the route you’ll also enjoy an off-train excursion at Matjiesfontein, with its Victorian buildings and original nineteenth century London lamp posts, before reaching Pretoria. 

Day 8 - Blue Train

Enjoy the morning conversing with your fellow travellers and watching the beautiful scenery stream past your window before arriving in Kimberley for an off-train excursion. The capital of the Northern Cape Province, Kimberley is famed for its diamond past and the siege during the Second Boer War. Here you’ll visit the Kimberley Open Mine Museum, home to the ‘Big Hole’, an open-pit and underground mine claimed to be the largest hole in the world excavated by hand.

On return to the station you’ll be greeted by a glass of sherry, engraved with the Blue Train logo – a memento for you to keep to remind you of your wonderful experience on board. There’ll be time to freshen up before aperitifs and dinner, followed by cognac and Cuban cigars in the Club Car.

Day 9 - Pretoria - Disembark Blue Train and Kwa Maritane Lodge Hotel Stay

Disembarking the Blue Train in Pretoria, you’ll be transferred to Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge to begin your luxury, three night safari stay within the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Situated on the slopes of a 2-billion-year-old volcano and in the natural habitat of South Africa’s majestic Big Five – you’re in the perfect location to enjoy a monumental safari experience.

Day 10 - Kwa Maritane Lodge - Hotel Stay

Your stay at the Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge will provide a fantastic opportunity to embark on an exciting and unforgettable game drive. Available twice daily and in the company of experienced game rangers who provide valuable information about some of Africa’s beautiful fauna and flora; you’ll enjoy close encounters with Africa’s untamed wildlife, namely, the majestic “Big Five”, comprising of elephant, lion, leopard, Cape buffalo and rhino.

After a day spent exploring, indulge in a traditional boma-style dinner on the outdoor bush braai area, under the black velvet blanket of the star-studded sky.

Day 11 - Kwa Maritane Lodge - Hotel Stay

Enjoy your final day of your safari stay and immerse yourself in a range of activities from relaxing on the nearby private beach to bird-watching some of the spectacular South African bird life; guided bush walks around the property to diving to discover the unique marine life in the deep blue waters.

Day 12 - David Livingstone - Hotel Stay

After your flight to Zambia, you’ll settle into the David Livingstone Safari Lodge and Spa on the banks of the Zambezi River. Named after the first European explorer to see Victoria Falls, the lodge offers guests access to the glorious naturescape, luxury bush accommodation in Zambia, and Zambezi River cruises. Visit the spa or The Kalai Restaurant, a traditionally styled eatery with buffet and a la carte options.

Day 13 - David Livingstone - Walking Tour, River Safari and Hotel Stay

Today you’ll join a walking tour of Victoria Falls, the greatest curtain of falling water on earth. Walk amidst the lush rainforest, encountering increasingly spectacular views of the falls as it crashes over the cliff and plunges 108 metres into the whirlpool below. You’ll then embark Lady Livingstone for a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River. On board, you’ll be served a selection of cocktails and iced drinks alongside hot and cold snacks. The cruise meanders upstream along the length of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, treating you to views of the Zambezi River and the surrounding game reserve.

Day 14 - David Livingstone - Livingstone Express Train and Hotel Stay

Take a trip back in time as you board the elegant Royal Livingstone Express Train. Comprised of five carriages, shrouded in vintage luxury and opulence, you will travel along the Mulobezi railway line through the heart of the Zambezi River Valley. During the ride, you will indulge in a fabulous fine-dining experience while keeping an eye out for giraffes, zebras or white rhinos – the perfect end to a magical holiday.
