Scenic Rail journey from Oslo to Bergen

Prices from $5,999 pp

Home of the Vikings, explore Scandinavia on the holiday of a lifetime. Uncover Norway on the Flåm Railway, seeing the fjords up close and enjoy hotel stays in Flåm, Bergen, Stockholm and Copenhagen as you discover the rich history of these fascinating destinations.

Start your holiday in Oslo, exploring its vibrant culture during a two night hotel stay before boarding the Flåm Railway, one of the most iconic rail journeys in the world. Wind your way around the Norwegian fjords and be enraptured by houses clinging to steep slopes. Remote settlements have managed to find life here but, for the most part, it feels like you are escaping into the wilderness.

You will stop for the night in idyllic Flåm, before you set off the next day on a ferry through the fjords. Passing a number of waterfalls roaring into lakes, disembark in Gudvangen and, as part of your journey, be transferred by coach through the mountains. Finish this amazing trip in Bergen for a two night hotel stay, making sure to capture those perfect pictures of the Sognefjord, the longest fjord in Norway.

From there, you will fly to Stockholm, an archipelago of 14 islands, each with their own delights to explore. Finally, you’ll fly from Stockholm to Copenhagen for a three night hotel stay, during which you could stroll through the historical rococo district for the perfect end to the perfect holiday.

Itinerary

Days 1 - 2
Arrive and Transfer to Oslo Hotel

This green capital of Norway is lively in all seasons. With summer boasting museum trips and winter bragging the clomp of ski boots, there is always something to do here. Its stylish bars and restaurants will never disappoint when you get a taste of the city by ordering kjøttkaker – meat cakes - a classic Norwegian dish that is usually paired with greens and potatoes.

Days 2 - 3
Train Oslo – Myrdal – Flåm, Hotel Stay in Flåm

Board your train in Oslo to begin your picturesque tour of Norway. From Oslo to Flåm, you’ll travel on one of the most scenic train journeys in the country. As your train twists through the valley, you’ll be able to see this incredible landscape rise around you before arriving in Flåm where you will stay the night.

Days 3 - 4
Flåm Ferry Crossing to Gudvangen and Hotel Stay in Bergen

In Flåm you’ll board a ferry which will cruise alongside mountains through the fjord. Then you’ll sit back on a coach in Gudvangen, to wind up the steep mountains to Voss, passing the wonderful views of the Stalheimsfossen and Sivlefossen waterfalls. Finally, you’ll board the train to Bergen, for your two night hotel stay.

Days 4 - 5
Bergen

There are few places in Norway more beautiful than Bergen, especially with its classic bright, wooden houses that line the harbour. One of the many delights in this town is travelling up the funicular to capture the perfect panorama of the town and harbour. Whether you are checking out museums or enjoying a walk through the bustling markets, you’ll discover the quaint charm of Bergen.

Days 5 - 8
Fly to Stockholm for Hotel Stay

Say goodbye to Norway as you fly to Stockholm, a city bursting with character making it difficult to know where to start! Visit the Old Town and its striking square, Stortorget, to sit in one of the many cafés or restaurants. You could see the Riddarholmen Church where the monarchs are buried or, better yet, head over to the Royal Palace, the largest palace in Europe.

Days 8 - 11
Fly to Copenhagen - Hotel Stay

While you may be saying goodbye to the delicious Swedish meatballs, you can look forward to decadent møbradbøffer, a Danish delicacy of pork marinated in cream. Walking past incredible buildings, you can meander down Strøget, one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe or, if you want to discover the astronomer within you, you can explore Rundetaarn, the 17th-Century tower that contains a planetarium and an observatory.
